Taslim came as a 10-year-old under our care. She is 21 years old now and carries a difficult past like most of our children. Born second in a family of 4 girls, she’s the only one who is infected! She lost her father to HIV when she was less than 10 years old and always had this valid question, ‘Why only me?’.
Her mother, also HIV positive, fights the battle firmly with a cheer and minimal income.
Taslim completed her 12th board exam and was pretty much lost on what to do next. This was when she was brought into our home, 6 years ago. Our Man Friday, Paneerselvam cajoled and convinced her to join college and she completed the same in time.
Taslim was extremely cheerful in spite of the occasional mood swings. She was a person we could lean on to during the various crises which we had while trying to run our home. She took a 3-month vocational training at ICICI, Chennai, and got the star job at ‘Croma’ in Coimbatore. Much to my displeasure, she quit in 3 months stating homesickness as the reason! We put her on a job of telecalling at Krishnagiri and she showed that she can be cheerful around us.
She caught the eye of Arcod founders during this time and they felt her commitment and passion in handling our children during this Corona crisis qualified her to be offered a job at ‘Children of Krishnagiri’ as of today! She’s thrilled to bits and said excitedly that this is what she wanted as a job while being in Krishnagiri and around us!
Universe has its own plans as I surrender once again to all that’s happening. Please keep Taslim in your prayers.
