We come alone

We go alone

is an oft-repeated phrase

I’ve heard

on life’s philosophy.

It all started

in a journey of months

in the womb of

my creator.

While he toiled

to keep me warm.

They around me

poured all the love.

Learning began

and teachers appeared

in

various forms and names.

Thinking began

and

the famous

‘I’ surfaced.

I learnt

I worked

I gave

I loved

So I believed.

Little did I stop

before I said

My food

My home

My clothes

My family.

I smelt gratitude

and

I realised

and

I made it a game.

Countless of them

were involved

it dawned.

The list was

endless.

Beyond me

to help

another,

It was never

one man’s deed

though

I claimed so.

Aloof I stood

in

Moments of despair

but

came out all the time

by a

Hand of divinity

extended

unfailing by another.

I probed,

Is that all?

Or

Are there more?

Creation smiled

with

Its silent presence.

So many involved

So many stood by

So many loved

So many cried

‘I’

transformed to

‘We’

Ubuntu,

I am

because

We are.

I slept

in

Eternal peace.
